Sometimes I’m in awe that total strangers are willing to help us.

Daniel started receiving emergency food assistance when he became the primary guardian of his four great-grandchildren. He makes it a point to let the kids know that the food comes from the Food Bank, and to teach them to be thankful.

By myself I was comfortable, no sweat. I always had money left over from my social security and my retirement check, but that doesn’t happen now. There are five of us now, and that is not what I was prepared for. I used to work for the state of Arizona, so I was always promoting the Food Bank, but I never thought I’d be on the other side. I never thought I’d be in the situation where I’d need it.

The kids know we get food from the Food Bank. I make it a point to let them know they need to be thankful. That’s all I can ask of them.

If there’s one thing I want people to know about the Food Bank, it’s that it’s there. And that it’s easy to use. You can be just an everyday citizen. You never know when you’ll be in a situation where you need help.

It’s amazing how strangers will help. Sometimes I’m in awe that total strangers are willing to help us. It’s incredible.
