SUMMARY:Desert Drifter Charity Coffee: the Mesquite Honey Caramel Latte
DESCRIPTION:We are so excited to be this Fall’s Charity Coffee by Desert Drifter: the Mesquite Honey Caramel Latte! \nThis delicious drink features a Mesquite Honey Caramel sauce made by Tucson Chocolate Factory\, LLC\, and it was inspired by our SOMBRA program\, which is working to address shade inequity around Southern Arizona. \nEven better\, all profits from the Mesquite Honey Caramel Latte sold in September & October will support the Community Food Bank’s mission to provide meals and so much more to our communities. ❤️ \nSo what exactly is SOMBRA? \n🌱 SOMBRA (Sonoran Mesquite Barrio Restoration Alliance) was launched to help address Tucson’s extreme heat and food insecurity by planting mesquite trees in “shade deserts\,” urban neighborhoods that have historically lacked access to shade\, particularly south of 22nd Street. \n🌳 The goal? 20\,000 mesquite trees by 2030. \nThe work began nearly four years ago with funding from a state grant through the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management and continues today with support from a growing network of partners. \nEvery tree planted helps create more shade\, strengthen our urban environment\, and build a healthier\, more resilient community.🌳☀️ \nSo stop by Desert Drifter Coffee and try the Mesquite Caramel Latte this month! \nAnd thank you\, Desert Drifter Coffee\, for helping us spread the word about SOMBRA\, one latte at a time!

SUMMARY:Pick Up FREE Seeds and Purchase Garden Supplies
DESCRIPTION:During October\, stop by to pick up FREE seeds and purchase our 30-gallon vegetable garden container kits\, worm castings\, compost\, potting soil\, and shade cloth from 7:00am to 10:00am at our Nuestra Tierra Learning Garden\, located past the playground on the west side of the Community Food Bank’s building on S. Country Club Rd. \n\n🌱 FREE SEEDS: as available. Did you know last year we distributed 60\,695 seed packets?\n🌾 30-GALLON GARDEN CONTAINER KITS: (sliding scale $30-$50)\, self-watering\, and a great way to grow food without a yard.\n WORM CASTINGS: 1 gallon for $5\n SHADE CLOTH (30%): 6 ft x 20 ft (sliding scale $25-$45)\n\nIn Southern Arizona\, shade cloth is typically used from April through October to protect plants from intense sun and heat. The exact timing varies each year\, but here are some general guidelines: \n\nSpring & Summer: Shade cloth helps reduce water loss and prevents sunscald on plants.\nMonsoon Season: Secure shade cloth well to withstand strong winds.\nFall: As temperatures cool\, shade cloth can be removed or adjusted based on plant needs.\n\nPlant purchasing should be available again soon (once our new Greenhouse is completed and stocked). \nFor current times and product availability\, please contact garden@communityfoodbank.org or call 520‑882‑3307.\n
