National Volunteer Month – Celebrating our Volunteers!
National Volunteer Month: Celebrating our Volunteers!
April is National Volunteer Month, and we’d like to thank our amazing volunteers for their invaluable role in helping us feed our community. Did you know that last year, volunteers worked 101,733 hours at the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona? That’s equivalent to the work hours of 48 full-time employees!
Simply put, we couldn’t do our work without them, and we’d like for you to join us, too
🌻 Got a green thumb? We’re looking for gardeners to help at Nuestra Tierra Garden or at Las Milpitas Community Farm. Get your hands dirty in the cooler mornings and help us plant, transplant, and sort seeds. We have ample shade at both locations.
🍴 Comfortable in the kitchen? Lend a hand and serve the community at Caridad Community Kitchen by gathering and distributing Grab and Go meals or packaging senior meals prepared by the remarkable Caridad staff.
🌵 Want to support the community locally, right where you live? We’re always looking for help sorting, packing, and distributing donated food and produce at each of our distribution centers in Amado, Green Valley, Nogales, Tucson, and Willcox, plus our mobile distribution centers across Southern Arizona from Ajo to Wynne Chapel.
Urgent Needs
- Due to increased need in the Douglas area, we have launched a second mobile distribution starting Monday, May 12, and need additional volunteer support.
- Saturday, May 10, is the National Association of Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, the nation’s largest all volunteer one-day food collection effort. We need volunteers to collect and sort food at various local post offices.
